UCAS - LGL students

The Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg is registered with UCAS, the central organisation through which applications are processed for entry to higher education in the UK. LGL students wishing to apply to a British university should therefore do so through their school.

To meet UK deadlines, it is strongly recommended that students planning to study at a UK university embark on the selection and application process 15 to 17 months prior to the starting date of their course.

Information session

At the end of the second term there is a meeting for all 3e and 2e students. The event is organised by the British Embassy in association with SLSB and alumni societies. In the course of this meeting prospective students are given in-depth information concerning the application process, studying at a British university and living in the UK. They are given the opportunity to meet students from Luxembourg currently enrolled at a British university. Prospective students are strongly advised to attend that event.

How to apply

The application process is lengthy and complex. It involves selecting courses and institutions, obtaining an informative reference, writing a carefully researched and thought-through personal statement, completing an electronic application form, sitting a language test (e.g. IELTS, CAE, CPE, TOEFL), sitting a special admissions test (e.g. for studies in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science, and selected other subjects), attending interviews or preparing portfolios.

For advice and assistance, students are requested to contact Simone Biewer at LGL-SePAS (by appointment or in the weekly contact hour) as they are likely to need substantial help with the electronic application process.

Prospective applicants for 2020 entry must contact Simone Biewer by:

– 1st week of May 2020 if their choices include at least one of the following institutions or courses: Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science.

– 1st week of July 2020 for all other courses.

Students who embark on the application process later than the above dates run a serious risk of failing to secure offers from the universities of their choice.

Deadlines for 2020 entry

1st October 2019: deadline for Conservatoires

15th October 2019: deadline for Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science.

15th January 2020: deadline for all other institutions and courses (except some art and design courses listed with a March deadline.)

Please note that applications can be sent from mid-September. Students are advised to send their applications well before the 15th January deadline as popular institutions and competitive courses fill up quickly. The fight for places at leading institutions is fiercer than ever.
