RAISE YOUR VOICE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS – a round table discussion at the LGL on activism and freedom of speech

The round table, which took place on May 21, 2025 in the LGL’s Salle des Fêtes, was organized by the young activists of the LGL’s Amnesty International group, in collaboration with the Luxembourg section of Amnesty International.

Students from classes 4C05, 3A01, 2A01, 2E04 and 2G05 learned more about Amnesty International’s work around the world.

The moving testimony of Shabnam Madadzadeh, a human rights activist who was a prisoner of conscience, made the students aware of the scale of human rights violations in Iran.

The importance of the work of various actors in the defense of human rights and freedom of expression was also illustrated by the other guests:

Sophie Hirsch from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Human Rights desk presented the role of government in taking action at institutional level;

Lou Scheider, a member of CPJPO, spoke about his experience as a human rights activist;

journalist and winner of the Amnesty Mediepräis 2019 and 2020 Petz Bartz provided explanations on press freedom and the importance of informing the general public about individual cases or conflict zones.

The guests encouraged young people to raise their voices for human rights.
