La section des arts plastiques
La loi du 13 avril 1979 stipulait la création d’une nouvelle section spécifique, la section arts plastiques, communément appelée, section E. Dès l’année scolaire 1979-80, la première section arts plastiques du Luxembourg démarre au Lycée de garçons de Luxembourg. L’enseignement artistique dispensé en section Arts plastiques (E) est un enseignement de base (fondamental) et pluridisciplinaire. Il mise sur la culture générale, la créativité individuelle et prépare les élèves aux études de niveau universitaire.

Les objectifs en général sont :
- approfondir l’apprentissage du langage plastique
- développer la sensibilité des élèves aux éléments plastiques fondamentaux (formes, couleurs, matières, volumes, espace… )
- apprendre à s’exprimer à l’écrit et à l’oral et à mettre en place un langage plastique personnel à l’aide des différents outils (manuels et numériques) et des techniques acquises au cours des trois années d’enseignement

- savoir créer des travaux graphiques personnels à l’aide des logiciels Photoshop, Indesign et Illustrator
- développer le sens de l’observation (analyse – synthèse – raisonnement par le dessin)
- développer la dextérité manuelle
- connaître les grands courants artistiques et savoir analyser des œuvres

Cycle inférieur (7e à 5e) « L’image » sous toutes ses formes (peinture, photographie, affiche, nouvelles technologies, sculptures, architecture…) est au centre du cours d’éducation artistique au cycle inférieur. Les élèves cherchent à trouver des solutions plastiques à des problèmes bien précis en laissant libre cours à leur créativité. Les élèves sont évalués selon trois compétences :
