Cycle inférieur (7^e à 5^e) « L’image » sous toutes ses formes (peinture, photographie, affiche, nouvelles technologies, sculptures, architecture…) est au centre du cours d’éducation artistique au cycle inférieur. Les élèves cherchent à trouver des solutions plastiques à des problèmes bien précis en laissant libre cours à leur créativité. Les élèves sont évalués selon trois compétences :

• savoir observer et interpréter (Wahrnehmen/Deuten)
• savoir appliquer les connaissances sur les techniques apprises et savoir développer sa créativité (Gestalten)
• savoir s’exprimer en oral et en écrit sur sa propre création (Reflektieren)

La section des arts plastiques

La loi du 13 avril 1979 stipulait la création d’une nouvelle section spécifique, la section arts plastiques, communément appelée, section E.  Dès l’année scolaire 1979-80, la première section arts plastiques du Luxembourg démarre au Lycée de garçons de Luxembourg. L’enseignement artistique dispensé en section Arts plastiques (E) est un enseignement de base (fondamental) et pluridisciplinaire. Il mise sur la culture générale, la créativité individuelle et prépare les élèves aux études de niveau universitaire.
